Page 1 hear we come!

We made it onto Page 2 of “Most Popular Addons” in the official Firefox Addons directory.

Not bad for our first week. Especially when there’s still so much room to improve!

Listening first vs. downloading

An interesting exchange on The Smoking Section:

I checked it out yesterday and it doesnt allow you to listen to tracks before you download them.

====================================================

This would be my major issue with Skipscreen. I mean I COULD just listen to it after its on my HD.. but that’s like tracking dirt on your floor just so you can use the broom

Check out my reply. It’s funny, cause I prefer to download first (and ask questions later?). But we knew some people would prefer to listen first. Someday soon we’ll have a preference pane, and this will be there! Along with the Rapidshare premium support, which seems like a big deal for a lot of people.

Rapidshare mystery solved!

200904021733.jpg

Ah… now I get it :)

It seems like people are having rapidshare errors because they’re clicking on links before the countdown completes, when skipscreen assumes that you’ll wait and let it do it’s thing. Note: if SkipScreen doesn’t download automatically after the countdown when you let it do its thing, please post a detailed error report with screenshots and error logs (Ctrll/Cmd-Shift-J) to the Getsatisfaction thread.

Unlike with the other sites, we can’t simply skip rapidshare’s countdown. As I understand it, this used to be possible, but now they don’t make the linked file available until after the countdown.

BUT if you leave the countdown running, the file will download automatically when the countdown completes.

So the user flow is identical to the other sites: click the link (ideally opening in a background tab) and don’t worry about it. Then the download starts.

I should add that yes, this is confusing. So… we’re going to be changing the UI soon to make it clear that, while we can’t skip Rapidshare’s wait time, we can automate the whole process so that it happens in the background and you never have to think about it. Does that work?

Out of the sandbox!

We’re out of the sandbox! This morning at 6:22 AM we got an email from an AMO editor telling us we’d been made public!

Hopefully, that means Rapidshare is now working for everybody. Let us know if you still have any rapidshare problems.

SkipScreen is growing up!

Rapidshare bug solved… we think.

We’re pretty sure we fixed the Rapidshare Bug but we’re not positive, since we couldn’t reproduce the bug in the first place.

If you are having a problem with a javascript error on Rapidshare, download the latest SkipScreen from addons.mozilla.org. We just realized that automatic updates don’t work for plugins in the sandbox. Rough.

Anyway, if somebody could test Rapidshare with the latest version, let us know if it works, and write a review that would be excellent! Writing a really detailed review is one way you can help get us out of the sandbox.
